The Gold Tone LS-8 evokes the Oahu Tonemaster, one of the most revered lap steels of the 1950s. This version is so close to the original that owners of Oahu instruments buy LS-8 pickups and hardware from Gold Tone for use in the restoration of their prized guitars. The LS-8 is set up for F6 tuning (DFACDFAC) but other tunings can be accommodated by installing strings that are gauged for those tunings. Available as left-handed model.
All Gold Tone instruments are designed and their prototypes built by Wayne Rogers and his team of skilled luthiers at the Gold Tone facility in Titusville, Florida. Gold Tone has long-term relationships with their manufacturing partners.These factories specialize in making the types of instruments Gold Tone offers, BUT EVERY GOLD TONE PRODUCT IS AN ORIGINAL DESIGN.
The final blueprints for each product are sent to one of Gold Tone's partner factories in China and Korea. The majority of instruments produced by Gold Tone are manufactured in a Korean owned-and-managed factory in China that Gold Tone has worked with since 1993, when Gold Tone was founded. Gold Tone uses maple from the US and Canada, rosewood and ebony from Africa and Indonesia and blackwood from Australia. Most of Gold Tone's metal parts come from Korea, as well as from China, the US and Germany.
